Obituary of Jean Aileen Castell

CASTELL, Jean Aileen (Reynolds) Passed away peacefully in her 94th year, with family by her side on February 8th, 2016 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Survived by her husband and best friend of 74 years, Joseph Edward (Ted) Castell (HMSC Lindsay). Daughters Barbara (Robert) Towey of Oshawa, Wendy Rynsoever of Oakville and Katherine Castell (Garry Hotrum) of Gravenhurst. Devoted and much loved Grandmother to Valerie (Jake) Vanderzwet, Vickie (Henry) Verrydt, Krista Lemaire, Karine (Jeff) Williams, Scott (Sandy) Rynsoever, Arden (Bryce) Carter, Neil Rynsoever, Peter (Karen) Castell. Dearly loved Great-Grandmother to Ryan, Nathan and Madison Verrydt, Tanner and Ricki-Lee Williams, Sonja and Steven Rynsoever and Nicholas Carter. Survived by sister Joyce Jeffery, predeceased by parents Cecil Reynold (November 15, 1895-December 27, 1942) and Stella Reynolds MacIntosh (March 16, 1895-May 20, 1971). Born Julyth, 1922 Jean spent her early years in the New Toronto area where she met and married Ted on January 3rd, 1942 at Trinity Anglican Church, Halifax. Jean worked in the clerical field before retiring to Victoria Place in Bobcaygeon in 1978 where she was actively involved in the community-meals on wheels, Settlers Village, secretary to the Victoria Place Association. Jean loved to walk, shuffle, participate in crafts, read and play bridge. Her favourite place to visit was the Niagara Falls Casino during the Winter Festival of Lights. Jean was always giving and was cherished for her kind heart and caring ways. She has left behind a beautiful legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all of those she touched. The Castell family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at the Retirement Suite of Kawartha Lakes in Bobcaygeon for their attentiveness and loving care towards Jean. As per her request a private family service will be held in her honour at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOME, MONK CHAPEL. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Alzheimer Society or a charity most meaningful to the donor.
