Joseph Metrow

Obituary of Joseph Albert Metrow

METROW: Joseph Albert Retired Toronto Police Sergeant, Badge No. 2453. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba June 19, 1939. Died in Peterborough, Ontario at the P.R.H.C. on Tuesday December 20, 2016 of complication of C.O.P.D/Emphysema. Son of the late Peter and Mary Metrow. Survived by his wife, Christina Roncossek and their Golden Retriever, Annabel, daughter Melanie Pipala (Rick), sister Mary Crumb and brother Steve Metrow (Marney). Predeceased by his infant son, David Metrow, sister Stella Metrow and brother Michael Metrow. Throughout his life Joe enjoyed nature and being out of doors. An annual spring highlight was collecting maple sap and cooking up rich amber syrup. Every autumn he gathered with his long time camp buddies to hunt moose and deer, cook his unique breakfast porridge, drink “truth serum” scotch, exchange stories and play euchre. In recent years his mobility was limited. He stayed abreast of events by watching CHEX news (occasionally making pithy comments at the broadcaster) and each day reading the Star and Examiner newspapers (stubbornly completing the crosswords and jumbles). Joe could always find the best Tim Horton’s (just brewed coffee and still warm Boston Cream donuts). A memorial service will be held at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or 705-652-3355 on Wednesday December 28, 2016 at 12:00 noon. It will be a Catholic service followed by refreshments. No flowers (Joe was allergic). Memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association.
