Obituary of Friedrich Konrad Niemann

NIEMANN: Friedrich Konrad Passed away Saturday March 4th, 2017, in his 81st year. With optimism, grace, strength and kindness, Fritz fought a brave battle with cancer. He passed with his loved ones by his side. Born in Duisberg Laar, Germany May 28, 1936. Emigrated to Canada in his early twenties where he met his wife Margaret (nee Dixon), lived primarily in the Niagara area for many years and was an integral part of the running of The Buttery Theatre Restaurant in Niagara on the Lake for over 40 years. Fritz made the world a more colorful and beautiful place for those who loved and knew him. His love of life, fun and good times was known to many, from fine wine to crab races at Tween Waters Inn, his gregarious nature and joy were legendary. Fritz was also a talented and prolific artist, a graduate of The Ontario College of Art in 1963, he continued to create and share his gift throughout his entire life. Dad was also a lover of opera, one of his favorites was Wagners Der Ring des Nibelungen, and in particular the Ride of the Valkyries. It is our hope Dad that the Valkyries carry you to Valhalla, because you have been the bravest warrior and we are humbled and proud to be your children. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret, whom he cherished and tenderly cared for during her own battle with Alzheimer's disease, his children Sybille (Joseph), Tony (Lesley) and his beloved grandsons Joey, Jimmy and Max, whom he loved with every fiber of his being and was so very proud of, and his brother Heinz, whose love he always felt. Fritz was predeceased by his mother and father, Anna and Phillip, his sisters, Margaret and Magdalene, and his niece Marion. At Fritz's request, cremation had taken place and a private family celebration of his life will be held on Bowman's Beach, Sanibel Island, Florida where we will scatter his remains. Our family would like to offer our profound gratitude to The Walker Family Cancer Center, to CCAC, and especially to Hospice Niagara for their gentle, compassionate, competent care in his final days of not only our Dad but of our entire family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fritz's honor, to support The Art Gallery of Ontario, The Walker Family Cancer Center or Hospice Niagara. Friends may send condolences or make donations by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355.
