My mom, Dawn Bean, was a friend to Joyce for more than 40 years, meeting her in the early 70s and serving alongside her as an international judge for many years and exchanging Xmas cards for almost that long. I have known Joyce since the 80s, but really got to know her after I joined my mom's masters synchro team in '96. Joyce was instrumental in shaping masters rules thru the masters committee in the early years of this century. She was always a kind and caring person and I am missing her very much!! Joyce has been elected to the Masters International Sports Hall of Fame (MISHOF) and I am desperate to get in touch with family members in order to get a bio and to let you know about the ceremonies for next year. From 1985, I became Joyce's "pen pal" until I met her personally in 1987.Joyce shared valuable and knowledgeable information to improve the technical level of the Peruvian National Synchro team, of which I was the Head coach.Her impact in my life went beyond the world of Synchro. Joyce invited me to attend a coaches training week with the Toronto Synchro team and then to her cottage. She was the main contributing factor for me to migrate to Canada and expand my knowledge in Synchro. Joyce and Don took me under their wing and made me feel as part of their welcoming and generous family. Since then, they attended both our weddings: City hall in Toronto and church in Peru; celebrated our daughter's birth, baptism and confirmation, maintained a close relationship and visited my family in Peru and Argentina. It was my pleasure to have coached Synchro to Diane and Joyce in preparation for their national and international competitions. Joyce's family welcomed my family when they visited Canada and my family reciprocated when her family visited Peru and Argentina. Joyce will be dearly and deeply missed by my family, Peruvian and Argentine family. She is reunited with her husband in heaven where they will be walking, swimming, feeding the birds and deer. I am eternally thankful and grateful to have met Joyce and Don. You will be in our hearts forever.

We were filled with sadness when we heard about the passing of Joyce. Our "Mrs Corner" until well into our adulthood. Her life was filled will remarkable and inspirational achievement that she was truly humble about. She and Don were a beautiful generous loving couple that embraced their love of family and friends You could feel his presence was always with her. As Bill and Carols friends we always felt welcomed by Joyce who always was interested in our lives and children. Really a loving 2nd mom whenever we were together, whether sharing family updates or our last favourite book. I have known Joyce my whole life. For me she is a part of Stoney. From her encouragement of all children to get in the water and swim to her open hospitality to all to visit her dock and share the joy of swimming, the late afternoon sun and the gorgeous view - she will be missed. I won't ever go by that dock without expecting to see Joyce swimming round those rocks or sitting in her robe after her swim. To Joyce! with much love. Debby Ianson

I offer my deepest sympathy to all Joyce's family, in particular Bill & Carol at this very sad time. She was such a role model at her admirable old age and without a doubt to be admired ! I first met Joyce in the 50's through our dear mutual friend Bev McKnight)Holden who was an instrumental synchro partner of Joyce's and a close friend for many years. So many memories of Joyce. I remember her sharing her love of synchro with me and my sister Laura. She taught us different moves and techniques until we were able to develop a pairs routine to the time of “Octopuses Garden.” She gave us lessons each day in front of her dock. Once we had it mastered, we had a “performance” just for Joyce, our parents, grandma Hill and Aunt Mary. I feel so fortunate to have known her all my life and for her to have shared her passion of swimming with us. The end of an era, the island will never be the same. She will forever be alive in the minds and hearts of all she has touched!

Aunt Joyce was always a warm and welcoming woman. She will be greatly missed by many. With a life of many successes in her favourite sport, I'm sure her greatest achievement was her family. Always the proud Grandma and great grandma. May she rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord and saviour.

I have many fond memories with my dear Aunt Joyce. I spent a summer living with her and Uncle Don and using the little boat to drive to Dunfords landing from there riding my 10 speed to Big Cedar store where I worked with my Uncle Dave and cousin. Throughout the summers many early morning swims around the island with whoever would get up that early to do it with her. What a wonderful way to begin the day. Growing up doing the Mile Swim, dock to dock races in the Regatta, movies at the Pavillion and Square dancing at Juniper Island. Gosh too many to say. I adored her and was fortunate to be in her life. She always opened her heart and her home. Family was a huge part of Aunt Joyce’s life. There were always photos of all in her life, plastered on her fridge or in picture frames throughout the cottage. Not to mention her swimming medals, pins and keepsakes from many places she travelled and competed in. She was an inspirational kind loving Aunt and I will miss her always. Rest in peace Auntie Joyce xo

I have so many memories of summers spent at Stoney Lake with Aunt Joyce, Uncle don and all my cousins. Happily opening up her home to our family and sharing good times together. Learning to paddle a canoe, drive a boat, participate in the "Mile Swim", playing late night scrabble, making fresh water runs in the canoe (never forget the mosquitoes), and too many stories to mention but times I will never forget. You are a diamond in the rough Aunt Joyce, someone who always shared your life and love with others around you. God Bless you always and may you rest in peace with Uncle Don. Love always, Andy xo

I have many treasured memories of Joyce starting from the time I moved to Ontario in the early 1980's as a qualified provincial artistic (synchronized) swimming judge. Joyce took me under her wing and supported and encouraged me to continue and to progress through the judging levels. With her continued support, help and mentorship, I became an international judge and judged the 2012 Olympic Games. We judged together for years and she swam Masters at my first international judge event in 1992 in Indianapolis. It was always difficult to judge her as I wanted to give her a 10/10! Joyce was truly a legend in our sport. She was a kind and loyal friend who did so much for our sport both nationally and internationally. She truly was a gem and she will always hold a special place in my heart. Sending my deepest sympathies to all of the family. Diane van der Pol

Dear aunt Joyce, I am going to miss you profoundly Thanks for being a swim coach and making me work hard for my trillium pins, thanks for being a supporter and cheerleader while I swam mile swims on Stoney lake you and gramma were and still are a staple in the only sport I am good at my idols. Thanks for sending me letters or the random phone calls while I was growing up just to let me know you loved me and think about me …. Also thanks for always welcoming me when I would just make my random pop up visits. My fondest memory and I have many but this one always makes me laugh when I think about it ….when we were in Cozumel for uncle fogees and aunt Ruth’s wedding and you and my gramma were sharing a room and you two came running down the hall and banged on our room door begging dad ( Tom) to come get a lizard out of your room lol dad sent me of coarse lol so I went down the rescue you guys lol and the lizard was soo small and I was like it is a gecko they are soo fast and I remember it running and you and gramma both jumped on the bed screaming and jumping up and down in your nighties and it made me laugh just cause you looked like two school girls I had to go get the front guy and he was able to sweep the gecko out the door cause we also didn’t want to kill it lol. I will miss you , I do miss you, I wish we had seen each other more often.
