It’s only recently that John and I reconnected. When I first called him and I heard that deep voice, I was instantly transported back to that late sixes, and he had become that gentle giant again. John was untiring in his patience with all, his ability to listen to others without judgment, and even his putting up with his “hippie” cousin in San Francisco! I only wish that we could talk again, perhaps one day we will. Peace, my good cousin, peace….

I could write a book about the times I spent with John from early childhood living on the same street and always a very hearty laugh all the way to the end of his life. Playing scrub baseball in the field beside the Atkinson house skating on the creek behind his house or tobogganing down the hill between Porter's and Lucano's houses or our times in the Lakefield Sea Scouts. Later in life chatting endlessly on the streets of Lakefield about everything from childhood shenanigans to the politics of Lakefield council. His friendship and laughter will be missed by many.
