Aunt Shirley was not only mom’s sister in law, she was a good friend to her. Mom was 10 when the family moved to Toronto, Uncle Scotty was 12. That’s when Uncle Scotty met Aunt Shirley. From then on, for about the next 70 + years, 5 kids, several grandchildren & great grandchildren.... she was the only woman for him. Mom says she always looked up to Aunt Shirley being an older sister of sorts to her. Back in the days of simpler times they would often go ice skating. Mom said she loved to watch them skate together as they would be arm in arm & completely in sync with each other. That’s what I always loved about watching them dance together & often spontaneously like at our family reunion a few years ago. They liked the song playing & just got up to dance like nobody else was there. I always thought Aunt Shirley had a cheeky sense of humour...like the time she showed up at our house dressed as Minnie Mouse in the 90’s....I don’t even think was Halloween. Mom said she always enjoyed their phone calls & would always end up talking about their kids with other, where everyone was at in life & their successes. Mom would finish the call thinking that they were very fortunate. Our thoughts & prayers go out to you Uncle Scotty, Karen, Debbie, Julie, Mark & families.
Sending our love,
Aunt Doris (Dot), Jeannie & families
