Obituary of Glen Campbell Hagerman

On January 29th, as the morning light broke the horizon, Glen Campbell Hagerman was called home by our Heavenly Father. Glen left the peacefulness of his home to be reunited with the love of his life, Elizabeth Joan (Betty-Joan) Towns, his parents Leonard Earl Hagerman & Maude Campbell and his brother Shawn Hagerman.

He will be deeply missed by the family that loved him as well as the many friends he made during his 92 years of life.

Born in May of 1933, Glen was born and raised in Oshawa Ontario. Glen learned his strong work ethic and the value of family from his devoted parents.

Glen and Betty-Joan first met at a church youth group in Kingston, Ontario. Glen was a Commerce student at Queen's University and Betty-Joan was a nurse at Kingston General Hospital. It was love at first sight.

Upon graduating from Queen's, Glen & Betty-Joan were married in Ottawa, on a warm September day in 1957. They would move to Toronto where Glen pursued an accounting designation and career, with Clarkson & Gordon and then Deloitte's.

Though he loved the accounting world, Glen felt a calling to teach, and soon became a teacher with the Peterborough County School Board. Here, he would use his accounting experience to teach accounting and business at Kenner Collegiate School, Lakefield District Secondary School, and Norwood District High School.  Glen made a strong connection with each and every one of his students as demonstrated when many years later he would run into a student and they would go out of their way to say how much they appreciated him as a teacher. This touched Glen deeply and equally important, when his children witnessed this, they further realized what a special Dad they had.

Glen continued his successful accounting practice while living in Warsaw. Through his accounting practice, Glen formed deep and meaningful connections and friendships.

Though Glen eventually retired from teaching he continued with his accounting practice when he moved to Peterborough, the main reason being to maintain those same friendships, which he made while living in Warsaw and the surrounding areas.

Although retired from teaching but still maintaining an accounting practice, Glen and Betty-Joan enjoyed many years of travelling to Florida to spend their winters in the sun.

In their final years, Glen and Betty-Joan enjoyed the peace and comfort of their home in Peterborough, surrounded by the family that loved them.

The family thanks the expert care and support received from Dr. Heidman and her palliative care team of nurses, all the PSWs who provided care, and Stephanie from the Community Paramedics program. The family also thanks Dr. R. Turner and his staff for the excellent care provided prior to palliative care. Lastly, the family would like to thank Lisa-Anne Hagerman (daughter) for her devotion, love and care of Glen and Betty-Joan, particularly during their final years.
