It was at a Sunday morning service, the Sunday following the celebration of life for Don's beautiful wife, Emily, that I looked out from the choir loft and saw Don sitting in the congregation of Lakefield United Church. At the end of the service, I went directly out to talk to him ... asked if he was going to continue coming to LUC, maybe join the choir. From that moment, Don and I began our friendship. He soon became a beloved member of our choir.
At some point we exchanged email addresses. We got into a rhythm of emailing each other every day, never a miss. We learned about each other's lives, past and present.
What an amazing man Don Pettypiece. Keenly intelligent. Brilliant. Kind. Gentle. Knowledgeable about so many things. Our email friendship morphed into lunches out, this always fun. Conversation flowed easily between us. We enjoyed each other's company.
Don and I had a rarely found late in life connection. I am sad that this piece of my life is gone, however memories are sweet, and I have hundreds of emails.
I was truly blessed to have had this man, my friend, in my life.
