Donald Pettypiece

Obituary of Donald Harry Pettypiece

Donald Harry “Don” Pettypiece passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre with family by his side. Predeceased by his beloved wife Emily, and loving father to Heather Pettypiece and Lynn Pettypiece-Hebb (Shawn). Dear brother to Diane Jensen (Bill), brother-in-law to Jo Anne Bugler (Paul) and Brent Smith (Cindy), and Uncle Don to his wonderful nieces and nephews.

Born on May 27, 1941, in Windsor, Ontario, Don lived a life marked by unending curiosity, a sincere appreciation for life's simple pleasures, and the genuine love of a good yarn, and could satisfy all three over dinner with family and friends, in a canoe in Algonquin, or in his many and varied travels around the world, with Emily at his side and his ever-present camera in hand. An avid golfer, he could often be found prowling the fairway, and landing the occasional hole-in-one, at the Huron Oaks Golf Club.

Don's work as a chemical engineer took him from Sarnia, Ontario to Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.  Upon retiring in Peterborough, he remained busy hiking and birding with the Peterborough Field Naturalists, singing with the Aces of Harmony, The Bonachords and The Lakefield United Church choir, and chasing his next good chin-wag on his ham radio.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In memory of Don, and in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation, Friends of Algonquin Park, or the Lakefield United Church.
