Violet Sellick

Obituary of Violet Jean Medland Sellick

It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the sudden loss of our beautiful baby girl, Violet, who passed away on Friday, February 21st, at the young age of 15 months.

Our family is forever changed, yet forever grateful to have spent this brief, but incredibly meaningful time with Violet.

Violet Jean Medland Sellick was born on November 1st, 2023, to her loving parents Rebecca and Oliver.  Having the same birthdate as her Nana, they will always share this special celebration. The connection between Violet and her big brother, Charles, is one that will last an eternity.   Witnessing them grow together will always be our biggest achievement as parents.

Violet was the happiest baby.  She lit up any room with her big blue eyes and beautiful smile, always having something to say to anyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with her.  Her first word was, “Hi”.  She had just learned to walk and was so very proud of herself.  Her face would light up on our regular FaceTime chats with her grandparents.  Her favourite things will always make us smile.

We gave her all the love we had and always will.

This tragic loss will be felt deeply by not only her Mummy, Daddy, big brother Charlie, and our pet Kitty, Winston (she called him, ‘Eow”), but also by our extensive family, friends far and wide, and our community.

It will take a village to heal.

Violet will be so dearly missed by her grandparents, Angela (Nana) and Andy (Grandy) Sellick of Bobcaygeon, Bill (Grandpa Bill) and Janet (Grandma Janet) Medland of Apsley, and Catharine (Grandma Cathy) and Jack (Grandpa Jack) Josey of Georgetown, Texas.

Also, by her great grandmothers Jean Medland and Maureen Orchard, step great grandmother, Marie Shuler (Mommarie), great aunt, Barbara Medland, and great uncle, David Douglass (Uncle Dave).

Forever remembered by her uncles and aunts, D’Arcy Hall (Lila), Amanda Skinner (Max), Ben Sellick (Jennifer), Danielle McReynolds (Stuart), and Grace Pyka (Jared).

Her cousins, Holly, Andre, Shelly, Logan, Artemis, Em, Char, Rosie, Lola, Scarlett, Auburn and Augie will carry her in their hearts forever.  We hope they think of her when they see butterflies and rainbows.

Violet has many family members near and far, including the United Kingdom and Texas, who we know will be thinking about her and us during this time, and long after.

Predeceased by her uncle Louis Sellick, great grandfathers John Medland, Jeffery Sellick, Fred Orchard, Paddy Dineen, and Robb Douglass, and great grandmothers Violet Douglass and Loretta Sellick.

A funeral service will be held at The Hendren Funeral Homes, Monk Chapel, 6 Helen Street, Bobcaygeon on Tuesday March 4th at 1:00 pm; Visitation beginning at 11am.  A reception will follow in the fellowship room of the funeral home.

In lieu of donations, we kindly ask that you honour Violet’s memory by performing a small act of kindness.  Whether it is helping a neighbour, supporting a cause close to your heart, or simply spreading a little more love and compassion.  Let’s carry Violet’s spirit forward and make the world a brighter place, just as she did every day.

Any gift of flowers will be personally delivered by our son Charlie to the residents of Case Manor on Wednesday.

Words cannot describe how much your love and support means to us during this time, Thank you.
