Obituary of Thomas Robert Porter
Porter, Thomas Robert
“Tom” was born in Galt Ontario on March 23rd 1943, and passed away at Ross Memorial Hospital on March 5th, 2025. Beloved partner of 45 years to Garry Sowiak. Thomas was predeceased by his parents William and Ethel Porter (nee. Brayshaw) and his brother Dave (d. Ruth) Porter. He will be missed by his sister-in-law Shirley (Doug) Silver, nephews Justin and Erin Silver and niece Brenda (Albert) Coccia and their family. Tom worked 37 years for the airlines as an agent for CP Air, Canadian Airlines, and Air Canada.
I would like to share. As I reflect back on my years with Tom. I feel the passion and the sense of security that made our relationship last. Sure, we had our ups and downs, but we worked hard to keep the bond we had made together last. I think about the early years where Tom looked out and after me and how in the later years, I looked out and after him. I have good memories of the trips we made to the US and abroad, we were young and adventurous then, it was good that Tom had worked for the airlines and he knew how to work the system. I also think about all the pets we owned over the years, Oliver, Maggie, Tiffy, Micky, Minnie-Purr, Sweet Pea and Vanilla, how they brought us joy and sense of family and how much we miss them all. I think back to the early years when we spent a lot of time at Tom's family cottage on Lake Erie, it was brief as mother nature took it away from us, then ending up in a trailer park to recoup our lost, eventually buying a cottage on Sturgeon Lake, where we spent 11 years and then being able to buy our retirement home in Bobcaygeon on Pigeon Lake. Here we will rest till we meet again in another time and place. I thank you for everything you have given me and I am forever grateful for everything we had together. God bless you Tom, I Love you and I miss you. - Garry
