Ross Cation

Obituary of Ross Alexander Cation

Peacefully, with his family by his side, Ross Cation passed away on April 16th, 2025, at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Ross was the beloved husband and best friend of Dinah Lee Cation for 57 remarkable years. Their love and devotion were an inspiration to all who knew them. He was a loving father to Danielle Bell (Mike) and Gineen Douglas (Gavin) and a cherished grandfather to Jayme, Stephanie, Reegan and Rachel. Ross was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Helen Cation and brothers Gordon Cation (Gwen) and Roy Collings (Susan). Ross will be dearly missed by his sister-in-law Carol Van Goch (Henk) and brother-in-law Peter Scott (Wendy), as well as nieces, nephews and special friends.

Ross was well known for his friendly personality and social nature. He lived with unwavering loyalty to his family and lifelong friends, relationships that spanned decades.

Born and raised in Toronto, Ross was a proud member of the Toronto Optimists Drum Corps from 1960 to 1965. He built a successful career, founding Cation & Associates Insurance Brokerage. —a business he took great pride in. Outside of work, Ross embraced life. He was a dedicated curler at the Thornhill Golf Club, loved to golf and was a supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs.

After moving to Lakefield, Ross was a committed community member. He volunteered as a driver for Community Care, curled with the Lakefield curling club, sang with the Peterborough Bonachords, and was an active member of the Lakefield Probus Club.

Above all, Ross cherished his time with family and friends at the cottage on Eels Lake. Whether he was enjoying a sunset cruise, fishing, or competing in the horseshoe tournament, the cottage was his happy place—a space filled with laughter, connection, and love. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Thank you to the caring staff at the ICU of both Sunnybrook and Peterborough hospitals.

A celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 77, 10 Nicholls St, Lakefield on May 16, 2025, at 12:30pm.
