Obituary of Patricia Lucy Sweeney
It is with crushed hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Patricia "Pat" Lucy Sweeney (Adams) on Sunday, May 18th.
Born February 6, 1945, on Bell Island, Newfoundland to the late James and Regina Adams (Locke).
Patricia's heart and soul were wrapped around her three boys. Naaman, her soul mate of 63 years who suddenly passed away on May 15, 2021. Her oldest son James “Jim” and his partner Kathleen Walker and Steven and his soul mate of 28 years, Kimberly.
Also leaving to mourn are her brothers Reginald (Mary), John (Rosanne) and sisters Roselyn (Leo), Mary (Andrew) and Denise (Dave). She was also predeceased by brothers Jimmy, Kenneth, and Lester.
There is a void in this world that can never be filled. Patricia was a fiercely independent woman of high standards, who loved making things with her hands. If a fence needed mending, a wall needed patching or a floor needed sanding, she attacked it with such determination and strength that would marvel any man or woman amongst us.
Patricia took every person she met into her heart, and after an hour in her presence you felt like you were family. She had a passion to help those in need, to feed those that were hungry, and clothe those that were cold. There are many who saw Patricia as a mother figure and sought comfort in her words and embrace.
Patricia and Naaman shared a strong passion for gardening and nature. The gardens surrounding their home and seasonal displays in their windows attracted many visitors from all over. So much so, that year after year their home was privately nominated for awards from the City of Toronto for its beauty and pride.
For those who knew Patricia, with the unexpected passing of Naaman, it was obvious that a great flame in her heart was extinguished. It is our belief she left this world with as much of a broken heart as she did a broken body.
Patricia and Naaman are now reunited in heaven watching over us. Their ashes will also be reunited here on earth in a stone urn together forever and will be laid to rest in a private garden being created just for them, surrounded by flowers, birds and nature. All of which they loved so dearly.
A mass will be held at 10am on Saturday, May 31st at Sacred Heart Catholic Church - 208 Romaine Street, Peterborough, Ontario. Followed by a gathering to celebrate the lives of Patricia and Naaman. All are welcome.
