Andrew Walker

Obituary of Andrew Walker

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father Andrew “Andy” Walker on May 28th, 2025 at Extendicare Kawartha Lakes in Lindsay Ontario.

Born on June 24, 1928 in Aberdeen, Scotland, to parents Andrew and Elizabeth Walker.

Andrew was a loving Husband to Doreen (D. 2021) for over 68 years. And together they came to Canada to start a new life with their children Florence (Terry) and Andrew (Cathy).

Andrew leaves behind a family that loved him dearly. He will be remembered by his grandchildren Brett (Dave), Matt, Brandon (Lauren), Shaun (Jade), Christopher (Melissa), and Lauren. As well as his great grandchildren Hudson, Clark, Evelyn, Mclain, Wyatt and Levi.

Retiring from a long career with Canada Packers at age 60 and moving up from the city of Toronto to their cottage on Buckhorn Lake, to enjoy the country life. The “cottage” was a great gathering place for all of the family. Fishing, swimming, skating and playing board games. There were many happy memories made there.

Andrew and Doreen loved to travel together, Spain, the Caribbean and for over 25 years, they would spend a few months at St. Pete’s Beach in Florida each winter to enjoy the sun. Taking pleasure in walks on the beach and making long-time friends from all over.

As a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 50 years in Lakefield, they enjoyed many of their activities and dinners, and the friendships they made. He had spent 2 years in the RAF, having many interesting stories to tell of those years travelling all over Britain.

Dad loved his garden and puttering around their Buckhorn home and property. When it became too much they moved into the lovely village of Lakefield. He was always there for us and we were always there for him, but he never asked for anything. That’s just the kind of great man he was.

We thank the many people that looked after him and Doreen in their final years. Community Care Lakefield, the VON, PSW’s, and the great care and attention that was given to him at Extendicare Lindsay.
