LOW: Michael James Russell
Passed away suddenly as the result of a heart attack on Thursday June 12th, 2025. Mike Low of Lakefield in his 57th year. Mike was born in Port Hope but spent most of his life in the Apsley area. He had a great love of sports and was a big fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Steelers and NASCAR. Mike graduated from the University of Guelph with an honours Bachelor of Arts in American History and Political Science. Mike spent much of his professional career in both the federal and provincial governments, working in the Office of the Minster of International Trade, acting as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Minister of Natural Resources, and Director of Strategic Planning for the Office of the Premier of Ontario. He also was the Manager of Government Relations for the Certified General Accountants of Ontario from 2000-2006. Since 2016, he was Senior Policy Advisor with Land Claims and Treaties for the Ministry of Natural Resources. Mike was a member of the Peterborough Kawartha Rotary Club and the Warsaw Lions Club. He is loved and missed by his wife Michelle McLean, mother Patricia Low (the late David d. 2020) of Lakefield, brothers Chris Low (Maggie) of Rockland, Pat Low (Cathy) of Arizona, Doug Low (Donna) of Cold Lake, Alberta, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He is also remembered by the McLean family: his in-laws Bryce and Margaret McLean, and brothers-in-law Mark McLean (Kerrie Hansler), Steven McLean (Shelley) and their families. Mike will be dearly missed by many close friends that have provided support and guidance to Mike over the past years. A funeral service to celebrate Mike will be held at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield on Saturday July 5, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Visitation two hours prior to the service. A reception will follow in the Heritage Room of the Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the P.R.H.C.
