Obituary of John McKay
On Friday, July 4th, 2025, my father John McKay, in his 83rd year, passed away peacefully at his home in Bobcaygeon. John was born on June 21, 1942 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He came to Canada in 1957 when his father, also John, moved for work. John is predeceased but his father and his mother Nancy (Dougherty) and his three brothers Frank, Allan and Brian.
“J” as he was known to all his friends and family had two sons. Dean McKay (Irene McKay) who recently passed away after his battle with cancer and Scott McKay (Ramona Coolen). J also has seven grandchildren, Lindsey Pearson, Tyson, Kurtis, Parker, Anise, Elyia and Simeon.
J spent the last 30+ years in Bobcaygeon and developed some deep friendships with too many to list here. You know who you are and your friendship was something he cherished. J was an avid fisherman. He spent countless hours on the lake with his lifelong friend Chuck (Chuckie) fishing for another catch of pickerel.
There is a special couple, Paul and Cindy, that have been so close to J and there is no doubt that Paul is one of his best friends. The afternoon toddies and the conversation they had over the years meant the world to J. Cindy did her best to keep J in line but I dare say that may have been a losing battle. Paul and Cindy treated J as part of their family and their son Cody was like another grandchild to J. He was very proud of Cody and felt very fortunate to be part of his life growing up.
J is leaving this earthly place in the way he wanted and on his terms. He would absolutely tell you he had a full and rewarding life and that is all one could ask for.
He will be missed by many.
Dad, may the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, May the fish always be biting…until we meet again…
