Suzann Cynthia Alsop

March 23, 1953 – August 1, 2025

It is with profound sadness that Suzann’s family announces her passing at her cottage on August 1, 2025, at the age of 72. 

Suzann is survived by her husband John and loving children, Christina (Kevin) and Philip (Dariana). She was the much-loved “GMa” of her granddaughters Kinley, Lyra, and Kiara. Suzann is also survived by her brother Stefano (Alexandra) and stepsister Sandra. She will be forever missed by her many friends and extended family, including relatives in Italy. 

Suzann was born in Rome, Italy in 1953. She came to Canada as a child and met her husband, John, on her first day at McGill University in 1970. After graduating, she worked for Bell Canada for 15 years before “retiring” to focus on raising her family. She was a dedicated mom who was very present in her children’s lives, encouraging them to participate in many activities. She loved to watch her children’s dance recitals, hockey and soccer games and later, her granddaughters’ aerial silks recitals.  She had a huge heart and opened her doors to those who needed support.

She and John loved to travel and fulfilled their goal of visiting all seven continents. She loved to dance and took her family to many Club Med destinations to share in all the “crazy sign” dancing. She also took her family on many ski trips and loved it even when her kids skied faster then her.

Suzann stumbled across Stoney Lake serendipitously in 2004 while visiting a friend, and shortly thereafter she and John became proud cottage owners. She loved the cottage life and treasured the many wonderful times spent with family and friends. She made many new friends at Wildfire Golf Club, and although she would never admit to actually liking golf, the occasional birdie would cause her to jump with joy.

Suzann maintained life long friendships from grade school onwards, including her “Core 4” group from Town of Mount Royal. She was a ferocious Scrabble competitor, a diehard “Swiftie”, and loved her doggie companions Lexie and Roxie.  Her motto was “Sense and Serendipity”.

Suzann struggled with ALS for almost 4 years, and passed peacefully in her sleep.

Arrangements have been entrusted to HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES – LAKEFIELD CHAPEL. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 4 Reid Street, Lakefield, on Wednesday August 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life with words and food shared will take place at a later date.
