Doug Joss

Obituary of Doug Joss

Douglas John Robert Joss

April 28, 1961 – November 1, 2025

Doug died in Peterborough Hospital a few hours after suffering a massive heart attack near his home in Bobcaygeon.  Predeceased by his parents Donald and Dilys (Hughes) Joss and by his brother Dean, Doug will be sorely missed by his brother David with whom he shared a home, his aunt Glenys and uncle Harry, cousins Joel and Jeremy and their families, and by other cherished cousins.  He will also be remembered with affection by extended family members and by friends and co-workers in Bobcaygeon and beyond.

A spunky and fun-loving kid, Doug spent his growing up years on the family farm near Moffat, Ontario, attended Brookville Public School and later was a student at Milton District High School.  Following high school, he worked for over a decade at Eaton Transmissions, then transitioned into the renovations business in a co-operative venture with his father, Don.

Doug was married to Kathy (Philips) Joss for 15 years, during which time there were many happy family gatherings at their home.  Later, when back living with his parents, Doug was the chief caregiver for his mother, Dilys, as her health declined.

After moving to Bobcaygeon in 2018, Doug was employed at the Foodland grocery store until frail health led to disability leave/early retirement.  When health permitted, however, he continued to make eye-catching and imaginative wooden creations - toys, bird houses and feeders, mobiles, decorations, tables, chairs and more. Friends, family and customers have been the beneficiaries of his talent.

Doug struggled bravely with a number of health issues in recent years. A gifted artisan and helpful handyman, he will be remembered as a cheerful, sociable and kind man, interested in people and events and generous with the resources available to him.

There will be no funeral, but a future gathering is planned to remember Doug, mourn his loss and celebrate his life. Arrangements have been entrusted to HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES – MONK CHAPEL. Memorial donations as expressions of sympathy may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation by visiting www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-738-3222.
