I am so sorry to hear this. I knew Katya at McGill at the School of Environment. I remember her clearly as warm-hearted and idealistic. Fun too. I am work colleagues with Dan here in Vancouver and just exchanged a few messages of condolence with him. I hope there is some small comfort in realizing how far this news about Katya is rippling. It speaks to the impact she has left wherever she has been. My heart breaks for her children and partner, and for her to not get more time with them. With love.

I had the privilege of hosting Katya for a summer when she was a young adult, as her billet family for the Québec part of a Canada-Brasil youth exchange. I remember an incredibly lively and thoughtful woman. I want to offer my heartfelt condolences to her loved ones upon her passing.

Kat has been a strong constant in my life. We've known each other since we were babies, grew together and even when there would be months between chats, we always went right back to being kids, talking and laughing. Even on my last visit with Kat, I got to hear her adorable laugh and we talked for hours about 'life'.
As kids, I remember making "magic potions" with all kinds of strange things we world find, relaxing by the creek and getting stung by nettles. Sleepovers, late night talks and laughing until we fell off our chairs are ingrained in my memory.
She is my life long, best friend and words cannot describe how much she'll be missed.

I had the privilege of working alongside Katya for eight years. In the early days of building a new customer service program for construction projects in Peel Region, we spent countless hours together, and it was during that time I truly realized her brilliance. Katya wasn’t just smart, she was a genius. Her standard of work was unmatched, and she set the bar high for everyone around her.
What made her extraordinary wasn’t just her talent, but her heart. If she didn’t know something, she would dive in, learn it, and master it with grace and determination and then be willing to spend hours to teach it. Through it all, Katya remained warm, pleasant, and loving in everything she did. She was a joy to learn from and an even greater joy to know.
Katya will be deeply missed.
My condolences to Chris, the boys and the family. Wishing you love, strength, and support during this difficult time.

As so many others have shared on this memory wall, Katya was warm, brilliant, and enthusiastic. She was such a great role model, and she helped me a lot in my early ventures into environmentalism. When my kids get a little older, I'll tell them about Katya the next time we go by the Seckar farm up by Goodrich-Loomis. Love to Chris, Everett, Forrest, Allison, Dalila, Nick, and the entire family.

Katya was one of the first people I met and worked with at the Region of Peel. She was so welcoming and warm and had such a vibrant and energetic personality. She always had a smile on her face! Not only was she an extremely hard worker, she was so creative as well from vibrant Halloween costumes to making artistic decorative cookies, her personality shone through and through. I was so fortunate to have met her and work with her. She will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences goes out to her family, hoping nothing but peace and comfort during this time.

Dear Allison and family, my condolences. I am so sorry that your beautiful daughter has passed away at a time and stage in her life when she should have had so much to look forward to and live. Rare cancers are unforgiving. I know because my father went through a rare form of cancer as well. It was difficult to watch, we all felt so helpless. I am so sorry that you have and are going through a very painful time. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May the love and support of your family be of comfort and keep you strong. With sympathy from Fernanda Pisani

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Katya. She was an extraordinary woman whose kindness, courage, and grace touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her decision to carry and bring her beautiful twin boys into this world is a testament to her selflessness, her bravery, and the size of her heart.
Chris, Everett, Forrest and family, I hope you find comfort in the memories of her warmth, her generosity, and the love you shared.
Rest peacefully beautiful Katya.

Katya was such an honest and kind person. During my years working with her at the Region of Peel she always had such a caring approach to her work and how she interacted with her teammates. I found these photos of the old team from many years ago and thought that they showed her bright and warm personality. Katya will be greatly missed by many.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Katya.
I had the privilege of working with Katya at the Region of Peel to help launch the customer service for construction projects - where we dove into a brand new subject outside our area of expertise. She took to the challenge without hesitation, dedicating time to learning from staff across the Region, and putting herself in the shoes of residents to help hone in on key messaging to help educate the community on construction across Peel.
She was hard working, dedicated, and so kind.
My sincerest condolences to her family, Chris, Everett, Forrest and everyone else whose life was brightened just by knowing her.

I worked with Katya several years ago at the Region of Peel. Katya was kind, enthusiastic, and had a deep love for the environment and her work in Enviro Ed. She truly lived what she preached, and I remember when she got engaged and felt guilt that basically everything she had done her whole life to conserve was now lost to the diamond on her finger. This made me chuckle but really showed the kind of person Katya was. I am deeply saddened and sorry to hear of her passing and offer my prayers to Chris, Everett, Forrest, her family, and all those who loved her.

Meeting initially as part of an ensemble of housemates, Katya and I lived together in Montreal during her studies at McGill, and we stayed friends ever since. I will always treasure memories of my “little sister” - especially her bright personality and giving ways. Whether in conversation or in deeds, it was hard to keep up with her as she whirled her way through the day. Always up for adventure, she once won a game of hide-and-go-seek in our fourth-floor apartment by hiding underneath and behind the kitchen sink! Her caring ways have always been evident – be they for those closest to her or for the whole rest of the world. We will keep her family in our thoughts.

Katya was one of my first friends at Spring Valley PS when I moved there to start grade 3. She was so welcoming and I have so many fond memories with her. I’ll always remember how passionate she was about life and how she just had such a beautiful outlook. I’m heartbroken to think of her beautiful babies growing up without her but I know she’ll be watching over them for their whole lives. Love you Kat.
