Obituary of Harold Edward Curtis Yardy
Sadly, we announce the passing of Harold Edward Yardy, who died peacefully at home in Lakefield on December 29, 2025, at the age of 88.
Harold was the beloved husband of Millie Yardy (née Craighead), with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage. He is lovingly remembered by his children Paul (Melissa) of Caledon, Mark of Vancouver, and David (Brittmarie) of Cincinnati, and by his seven grandchildren: Stephen, Sarah, Nicole, Kevin, Annika, Keaton, and Rebecca.
Born and raised in the Castleton, Ontario area, Harold was the devoted son of John Yardy and Jessica Curtis, and a loving brother to Helen, Jean (predeceased), and Sonny (predeceased).
Harold lived a full and hands-on life. He worked as a telephone technician with Bell Canada for 35 years before retiring in 1990 to his lakeside home on Deer Bay, next to the cottage which he built himself. A skilled woodworker, mechanic, and electrician, Harold took great pride in creating and fixing things with his own hands.
Harold was a lifelong aviator who found great joy in both power flying and gliding, a passion he shared generously through many years of involvement with clubs across Ontario and Canada through the Soaring Association of Canada and COSA. Known for his steady leadership and willingness to mentor others, he took pride in supporting the flying community and encouraging new pilots. In retirement, Harold also enjoyed golfing and spending time on the course as a member of Katchiwano Golf Club in Lakefield and The Quarry Golf Club in Peterborough.
A celebration of life to honour Harold will be held at a later date.
