JACKSON: Roger John
Roger Jackson of Lakehurst passed away Monday January 12 in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Sylvia (Bolton) Jackson. Son of the late Elsworth and Bessie (Adams) Jackson. Missed by children Terri (Larry) Kraus, Tracey (Bruce) Seabrook, and Martin (Lynda) Jackson. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Alex (Trish) Kraus, Lana Kraus, Logan Seabrook, Morgan (Rebecca) Seabrook, Dawson (Samantha) Jackson and Mykelty (Mark) Young, and five great-grandchildren Boyd, Breven, Isabel, Adeline and Sutton. Survived by brother Hugh (Joyce) Jackson, sister-in-law Dawn (d. Arnold) Jackson, and brother-in-law Jim (Barbara) Bolton. Predeceased by brothers Bobby, Donald, and Arnold and sisters Margaret and Grace, in-laws Ivan (Mae) Bolton, Chub (Teresa) Bolton, Laura (William) Cadigan, Marion (Pat) Cadigan, and Mae (Ted) Britton.
Roger began his life in Ewen, on the Galway Road. In 1944 the family moved to the current Jackson Farm, Lakehurst. In his younger life, Roger drove truck, ran heavy equipment, cleared land, built homes and picked peaches; he was never short of a job. Roger enjoyed country music and dancing. He could often be found calling the square dance at many local Junior Farmers dances. This is where he met his wife Sylvia Bolton Jackson of 65 years. They could be found Friday or Saturday night dancing and later many times with kids in tow.
Roger and Sylvia devoted their time to the farm, increasing its size, raising quality Angus and Saler cattle, running Jackson’s Sweet Corn and Maple Syrup, for which they became well known. Over the years Roger enjoyed attending cattle sales, shows and tours across Canada and the United States, making lifetime friends along the way. Roger was often found “checking the cattle”, and was still buying bulls from the West in his eighties. Roger also enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, politics, having someone open the gate for him, and spending time at the cottage on Salmon Lake with friends and family. He was especially proud of the accomplishments of his children and spent many an hour chatting to Sylvia about them, but his 6 Grandchildren were his pride and Joy.
His wit was unmatched, quips were common. Always a Planner, thinker, doer and enjoyed sharing his philosophy with all”
