Obituary of Christopher Allen Moffatt
Christopher Allen Moffatt
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Chris passed away peacefully the morning of January 17, 2026 at Peterborough Hospice at the age of 60.
Born in Oshawa, Ontario, Chris is survived by his devoted spouse Sandra Wilbrink; his cherished children, Jordan and Jessie, who were the pride and joy of his life; his loving mother Elizabeth; his older brother Kevin (Jane) and his nephew Bradley. Predeceased by his father Ronald. For the past 21 years, Chris shared a beautiful life with Sandra, whom he first met as a teenager. Together, they built a home grounded in love, partnership and enduring friendship. Chris will be sadly missed by all his immediate and extended family and his large circle of friends.
Chris devoted much of his life to serving his community as a first responder. A volunteer firefighter with the Douro-Dummer Township, he answered the call whenever it came—day or night, in all conditions—never hesitating to put others first. His years of service included the role of Deputy Chief, then District Chief. He took great pride in mentoring and training the next generation of firefighters, ensuring the strength and safety of the department and the community for years to come.
In addition to his fire service, Chris simultaneously served the Township in the Public Works, Roads Department as Lead Hand. Those country roads called on him and his crews at all hours, whether for plowing, salting, or maintenance, regardless of weather or time. Fire calls, motor vehicle accidents, and public works emergencies were all met with the same steadfast commitment. Chris’s impact on the safety, security, and well-being of the community was significant and enduring. His dedication, leadership and service has left a lasting impact.
Chris had a magnetism that made others gravitate to him. He was kind, generous, and genuine, forming deep and lasting friendships wherever he went. He loved his children unconditionally and was immensely proud of the young adults Jordan and Jessie have become.
The last three years of Chris’s life were marked by a courageous and harrowing battle with cancer. After fighting so hard for so long, the sudden downturn was unexpected. In the end, his passing was calm and peaceful, with Sandra by his side holding his hand.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff and volunteers at Peterborough Hospice, who surrounded Chris and his family with care, dignity, and warmth throughout his final journey.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held at a later date.
