Obituary of Richard Alec Scott
Richard Alec Scott (Ric), 84, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Nairobi, Kenya, he was educated in England, earning a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) from University of Leicester, and more importantly, meeting his future wife April. After graduating, and marrying, they spent their honeymoon on the Queen Elizabeth II, immigrating to Canada and settling in Sarnia, ON, where they raised their two children. Ric worked for Dow Chemical until 1995, when he and April made the move to Bobcaygeon, ON, to buy and run Water’s Edge housekeeping cottages, and make memories for the scores of guests for twelve years.
Renowned for his woodworking abilities, was a founding member of The Guild, a group of Sarnia-area artisans. Ric created everything from award-winning wildlife carvings to exquisite furniture. In his retirement years, he turned to cabinetry; many kitchens and bathrooms both locally and afar feature his work, as well as Trinity United Church and Kawartha Settlers’ Village. Ric was a member of the Bobcaygeon Curling Club and in his later years, Ric shared his passion for gardening on the board of the Bobcaygeon Horticultural Society. Ric could be seen each summer tending to the town’s public gardens.
Ric is survived by his wife April, his children Katherine (Jeff) and Graham (Kim) as well as grandchildren Stephen, Eric (Aliya) and Ainsley.
A celebration of life will be planned later in the year, when it can be held outside, under the trees on the shore of the lake he loved. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kawartha Land Trust by visiting www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-738-3222.
