Cyr, Joseph Arthur ‘Art’
Art passed away peacefully at Ross Memorial Hospital on March 19, 2026, at the age of 91. Art was very strong and was able to be in his incredible country home up until a mere few days prior to his passing.
Art was born July 8, 1934, in the beautiful Îlles de la Madelaine and the family later moved to Digby, Nova Scotia. Art was the second oldest son of Avila and Matilda Cyr and brother to Maurice, Paul and Delores who all predeceased him.
Arthur Cyr married Claire Levesque of Matapedia, Quebec on Sept 7, 1957, and they had nearly 69 years together. Art a good-looking young man had traveled to Toronto for work and met a pretty and very smart young French girl at a Danforth music venue, Players Palace. The young couple went on to have 7 children. Marie Linda, Mary Louise, Carole, Rose, Barbara, Brenda, and David who sadly passed away at a very young age.
Art worked for the City of North York while raising 6 girls with Claire in Richmond Hill. He loved having a good time and a good laugh. Art enjoyed music and guitar, dancing with Claire, hunting, fishing, boating, skating, cars, trucks, atv’s, cottage life, and his beloved garage in addition to big family life, all things country and many friends. Art also enjoyed having sons-in-law join his family to share his interests.
Art & Claire were blessed with 10 grandkids and 11 great grandkids and retired to a picturesque lakeside home and large treed country property in Catchacoma, Trent Lakes.
Art waited for each of his 6 daughters to arrive before his passing and enjoyed lively visits by many of the grandkids and even great grandkids. He even tried a few chords on his guitar. It is widely believed that Art was in no hurry to leave this earth as long as he was side by side with Claire who was with him as he drew his last breath.
Art will be greatly missed.
