Our hearts go out to Barry’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Barry was truly a cherished part of the Coon Lake community, and his warmth, kindness, and unmistakable smile will be deeply missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know him. We will forever remember the joy of seeing him zip across the lake, heading toward his island paradise, always with that familiar smile on his face. His love for the lake and his incredible eye for capturing its beauty through his photos brought happiness to so many of us. Barry’s presence left an indelible mark on our community, and his memory will live on in the stories we share, the images he captured, and the many lives he touched. May you find comfort in knowing how deeply he was loved and how profoundly he will be missed.

Well, this is a tough one for me. I’m sure it’s very hard on a lot of people because Barry was a very sweet person and I call him my mentor with his photography being such an excellent quality. We exchanged photos and occasionally photo bombs between us on social media, many of which were sunsets from coon Lake or Stony where our family Cottage is located.
Oddly, I never actually met Barry in person, but I feel like I’ve known him all my life. We had a very special connection and especially during the last year when things were getting really rough for him. We communicated many times each week and exchanged Philosophies on life and the beauty of nature, paddling in our canoes and the love of our family and friends
Up until March 22, communication from Barry stopped and I knew that he was getting close to crossing over that bridge to a life without any more pain. I’ll miss those 1112 and 1:00 AM chats that we had online as I was trying to be as uplifting and supportive as I could under the circumstances.
Barry will remain in my memory forever as he told me that in his words: “ Ward, we have already met”
I will try to follow in Barry‘s footsteps and will Continue to post beautiful pictures of the Kawartha Lakes on social media, always in his honor.
My deepest condolences to his whole family, including of course, Lisa , his sweet granddaughter, and of course, his dad who I would’ve loved to meet. Perhaps I will get that opportunity who knows but I’m finding that being three hours away I will not unfortunately make it in time for the celebration of life this Friday.
Many thanks For sharing the beauty inside you, Barry, Rest peacefully
Ward Strickland, ( Fairy Lake Island, Stony Lake , and Ottawa)

Our heartfelt condolences to Barry’s family. Barry brought so much light in this world. He loved his family and brought much joy to all who met him. Barry was passionate about nature and his love for Coon Lake. Many of us grew up on this lake and spent much time enjoying our surroundings and the people and animals who shared this space; many stories to share. Thank you for being you and making such a positive difference in the lives of many. You will be missed, Barry; may you rest in peace.

To all of the Killen family:
Janie & I are so very sorry for your loss of Barry. He was a great friend and a wonderful human being. For the past 50 years of being next door neighbors to the Killen family at our Coon Lake cottage, we knew Barry as a little boy and watched him grow up to become the fine young man that he was. Summer and winter, he was always at the cottage either at his Mom and Dad’s cottage or at his own cottage on the other side of Coon Lake. Barry looked after the Beaver dam, decorate the road into the cottages on special occasions such as Easter or Halloween. He looked after the groundhog with one eye, bears, deer, and turtles that inhabited Coon Lake. He knew everyone on Coon Lake and was always there if anyone needed help. We know that Barry enjoyed Coon Lake because he never forgot the wild life and beauty of the lake. Barry was a truly special young man and left us with some wonderful memories. We will miss him and so fondly remember him.
Our deepest sympathy to all of you.
Janie & Grant Heffernan

Our condolences to Barry’s family.
Barry will be remembered as a good neighbour and a kind presence in the community.
He had a warm and genuine sense of humour and a gift for conversation, often sharing early morning discussions about the local wildlife and the everyday moments that make a neighbourhood feel like home.
Barry’s steady friendliness and easy wit will be deeply missed.
With sympathy, the Skilton family.

To the family and loved ones of Barry.
I feel privileged and blessed to have called Barry a true friend. We spent many special times together in the area he loved most, with nature. Barry always made me smile. That smile that seems to come from deep inside. We hiked together last fall to his lookout and am so glad we did. We took in the beautiful day together and had some great conversations. Barry had a great love for his family and nature. I am going to miss him immensely. From paddling past on a calm summer day or showing me “cool stuff” he would stumble across while on a hike.
The lake will never be the same. R.I.P. my friend. I will see you down the trail again some day.
