Obituary of Mary Elizabeth McGee

Mary Elizabeth McGee
August 27,1936 - April 13, 2026

It is with extremely heavy hearts, surrounded by the love of her family, we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth McGee (née Richardson). She is mourned by her children; David (Cris), Suzi (Tim), J.R. (Janie), and her grandchildren; Adam, Courtney, Lexi, Zak, Macki, Maddie, Brookie, and Gigi to Estelle, Farrah, Monty, Barrett, and Jasper.

Mary was born on August 27, 1936 in St. Catherine’s to William and Eileen Richardson. She was predeceased by her son Stevie and her husband Jack.

Mary met Jack while working as an office assistant. Jack was making cold calls when he started talking to her to get a date with him. Not being one to accept no for an answer, Jack went back numerous times. On one occasion Mary’s boss pulled her aside and said, he’s not coming here to see me, and he doesn’t seem to care you’re engaged, so just go out with him. The rest is a lifelong love story.

Although small in stature, Mary was huge in heart. She loved her family, and was happy that it continued to expand, with two more great grand babies on the way.

Mary took great joy in giving back to the community. At Christmas she was always looking forward to family traditions, as well as helping those less fortunate. Many times, it would so happen, she would be going by a donation Christmas tree with children’s names on it for gifts. Instead of walking on by, Mary would stop and collect all the names that were left and head to a toy store to fulfill the list. She repeated the same gift giving at the local women’s shelter, where she would make sure all the Mum’s got gifts too!  And did they get gifts!!!!

Mary’s beautiful personality would always shine through when she was out and about. People knew her everywhere she went, and they would have huge smiles on their faces long before she got to them!

The family would like to thank the staff that took care of Mary at PRHC, particularly those on C2 - where she spent her final weeks. They were like family and were appreciated beyond words!!

There will be no service as requested by Mary. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society, Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto and Parkinson’s Canada.  Friends may send condolences or make donations by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield, at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355.
