Darlene Heffernan

Obituary of Darlene Heffernan

Darlene Frances Heffernan (nee Towns) b. August 11, 1959.

Like the leaves that fall gently along tree-lined King Street on an autumn day, Darlene’s last breath drifted from this earth and on up to heaven, Saturday, April 18th 2026.

Darlene loved nothing more than hosting a feast for family and friends, or anyone else who cared to join for that matter. Her door was always open and there was always a seat at her table. If you weren’t lucky enough to partake in one of the many Christmas Eve celebrations, a spaghetti dinner on Victoria Day, or a chili feast on Thanksgiving weekend, you no doubt crossed paths and shared a laugh with Darlene at one of the endless community events she organized or attended.

A tireless volunteer and public servant, Darlene contributed decades of service to the Asphodel-Norwood and Douro-Dummer townships. She is a past President of both Norwood Minor Sports and the Norwood Lioness Club and spent over 30 years working in the Municipal Offices of both communities. Her impact in these communities cannot be understated, often in quiet and unseen ways, and the meteor-sized crater her passing has left in this community, and our hearts, is one her family, friends and loved ones will work to fill in her honour.

Loving and supportive mother of Jason (Stephanie), Jennifer, and Tyler, and cherished grandmother to Olivia, Naomi, Nora, Mae and Tyson. Sister of Michael (Carol), and Teresa (Frank) and predeceased by her brother Eddie (Caroline), and parents Bernard and Mary Towns. Special thanks to Terry, the WCG, and the Friday Night Crew.

As the first flowers of another spring return and fill our days with colour and new life, we are saddened that Darlene isn’t here to see them, but find solace in knowing that she is at peace. In her honour, please consider planting seeds of your own this spring - in your gardens and your communities - and remember Darlene with each season as they bloom.
