Obituary of Anna Bernadette Cosgrove

ANNA COSGROVE

August 22, 1941 – April 21, 2026

COSGROVE (née Lynch) - Anna Bernadette died peacefully April 21st, in the loving arms of family, at the age of 84, at Campbellford Memorial Hospital.

Born in Marmora, Ontario, Mom was the second youngest of seven children born to the late Anna (Maloney) and Vincent Lynch. She grew up working in the family store, Marmora Frosted Foods. Immediately following high school, Mom completed her teaching certificate and soon began working as a primary school teacher, notably in Hastings, Campbellford and Norwood.

Mom was introduced to her future husband, Jim Cosgrove, by her brother, Doug. Our father was so smitten by her dark Irish beauty and smarts that he broke off an engagement and converted to Catholicism to marry her. They shared a life together for 61 years, just north of Havelock.

A few of our favourite memories of Mom involve picnics, playing cards and board games, summer camping, family gatherings, slide shows, feeding the birds, and creative projects. Travellers along County Road 46 will remember the car-stopping, year-round installations in the front yard and the abundance of apples left at the roadside to be shared.

As an active member of the Catholic Church, Mom served with the CWL and managed Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, alongside our father, for many years. Following our father’s death in 2023, Mom moved to Maple View Retirement Residence in Norwood, where she was embraced by their caring community. She will be remembered, in particular, for her great sense of humour and sharp wit.

Mom is deeply missed by her daughters, Julie and Diane and beloved grandson, Kieran Cosgrove; by her brother, Vince Lynch in Bellville, numerous nieces and nephews, her Maple View family, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents and Lynch siblings: Carl (Anna), Patricia (Barry Olson), Doug (Eleanor), Morris (Bernadette) and Keith (Yola).

Our family extends sincere appreciation for the staff, pets and residents of Maple View Retirement Residence, Campbellford Memorial Hospital, Nightingale and Community Care; Father David West, Biskett and the church community; neighbours, friends and family for their love and support.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Havelock on Sat., May 30th at 1 pm, followed by a reception at the United Church.
