Obituary of Sally Reid
Reid: Sara “Sally” Rose
1942-2026
Passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 13th, 2026 surrounded by her loving family in her 83rd year.
From an early age, Sally worked as a hairdresser at Keith Brown Hairdressers, Lakefield where her natural gifts of creativity and artistry shone through.
Education was very important to her and in her early 30’s she graduated from Fleming College’s Medical Secretary Program. She enjoyed a 20+ year career at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she made many lifetime friends and was forever grateful for the support she received from the Sisters. Never one to sit still, following her brief “retirement”, she then worked another 10+ years at Chemong Audiology.
Growing up in the close-knit village of Lakefield meant the world to her where she was a member of the Lakefield United Church, the Lakefield Historical Society, Seekers, her “Kindergarten Club” as well as volunteering with the Girl Guides of Canada and the St. Paul’s Elementary School's Breakfast Program. She was a person who put the needs of others before her own and knew how to brighten your day with her smile, a hug and kind words.
Our own personal “Martha Stewart”, Sally excelled at interior decorating, flower arranging and family/wedding planning. She enjoyed curling up on the couch in her favorite PJs with a good book, a “friendly” game of Catch Phrase (aka “Pass the Puck”), sewing, antiques, shopping (a fashionista and collector of shoes) but not so much cooking/baking and was the keeper of the Foster/Davis heirlooms/history.
Family and friends always came first and wherever they could be found was her favorite place. Art and Sally’s home was a place of safety, comfort and belonging – open to all anytime to gather, hang your hat, love, laugh, break bread, share stories and make memories.
Sally is predeceased by “my Art” (March 2026), her rock, best friend and the love of her life. Forever loved, forever missed by her children Lee (Shelley), Kendra (Steve) and Krista (Ian). Cherished and proud Nana to grandson Reid VandenBroek who loves her to the moon and back and around the world, forever.
Survived by her sister Judy Hallam (Rodger) of Dorchester. Lovingly remembered by many friends, extended family and as a “big sister” to many nieces and nephews. Dearly missed by Adrian VandenBroek and all of her 4-legged furry grandchildren.
Predeceased by her parents John Clarence and Florence Leta (nee Davis) Foster who shared her “glass half full” outlook on life, siblings Lorne Foster (Freda), Jean French (Sherman), Clarena "Topsy" Heard (Ken), Lloyd Foster (Norma), Alice Wilson (Fred), Mary VanSteinburg (Everett), Gerry Foster (Patty) and her very special sister-in law Judy (nee Reid) Donaldson (Paul).
