Obituary of Idonia Sandra Young

Idonia “Dee” Sandra Young (née Dunford)

April 10, 1939 – July 7, 2026

Donee Young passed peacefully at Peterborough Extendicare on July 7, 2026. Missed by her siblings, Cauline Cox (Dale), John Dunford (Linda) & Charlie Dunford (Jessie). Predecased by parents Howard & Violet Dunford, husband Cyril Young, life companion John Coughlin, and siblings Dorothy, Beatrice, Betty, Doug, Max, Robert and Gary.

Her 87 years were eventful as a young girl growing up on Stony Lake with a family of 13, and staying home on the farm till her early 20s. Picking berries, swimming, talking to Spinner (the family dog). Donee lived in Lakefield and Peterborough her adult life, working multiple jobs through the years, keeping time to the music with her knitting, playing games and living life. When she played rummy you’d hear her say “Rummy Dummy” when she lost.

Donee (Dee) moved into Extendicare 17 years ago. She was active for many years and enjoyed the job they gave her folding towels in the laundry room. Every morning at 8 a.m. she would say “have to get to my job” and sometimes her sister Betty would join her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES – LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield. A Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday July 16, 2026 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Friday July 17, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with a Service at 11:00 AM. Following inurnment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Douro, everyone is invited to the Lakefield Legion – Branch 77, 10 Nicholls Street, Lakefield, for a reception.
