Obituary of Daniel John Kierstead
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel John Kierstead, affectionately known to many as Dano, Copper Dan, and most proudly, Papa. Daniel passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, at the age of 73, surrounded by the love of his family.
Daniel was the devoted husband of Bonnie Kierstead, with whom he shared a life built on love, laughter, and unwavering support. He was a proud father to David Kierstead and Kyle Kierstead, and a loving stepfather to Nicci Gray (Ben Gray) and Rhonda Woolley (Andrew Woolley). His greatest joy was being “Papa” to his cherished grandchildren, Emma, Jacob, Cooper, Austin, Mackenzie, and Danica, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Before retirement, Daniel dedicated his career to serving and protecting others as a police officer. The values that defined his career—integrity, courage, and loyalty—continued to guide him throughout his life. Policing wasn’t simply a profession to Daniel; it was a calling that he spoke of with pride and passion.
When he wasn’t sharing stories from his years in uniform, Daniel could often be found enjoying another lifelong passion—motorcycles. Whether riding the open road or reminiscing about adventures on two wheels, motorcycles brought him a sense of freedom and happiness.
Those who knew Daniel will remember his unmistakable sense of humor, his collection of funny sayings, and his ability to make people smile, even during difficult times. He had a way of bringing laughter into everyday moments and creating memories that will be treasured forever. Above all else, Daniel’s greatest love was his family. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved, whether celebrating milestones, sharing a meal, or simply spending time together.
Daniel also had a special place in his heart for his beloved pets, Chance and Lucky, who brought him endless companionship and joy.
Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Daniel’s legacy lives on through the values he instilled, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his guidance, his stories, his quick wit, and the countless memories they created together.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare professionals who cared for Daniel with compassion throughout his journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Daniel’s memory may be made to the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) Foundation, in the hope that continued research and support will help other families facing this devastating disease. Friends and family may send condolences, arrange flowers or make donations at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355.
Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
A celebration of life will be held at the YRPA Association building - Stonehaven, 63 Eric T Smith Way, Aurora from 12 – 4 PM on Sunday August 9th, 2026.
