We say goodbye to our beloved Mom, fun grandmother, dear great-grandmother, wife, aunt, daughter, sister, friend; Dee Dee. Mom was an RN nurse. She was a very active local politician, becoming the first woman Chairman of the Board for Peterborough County Public School Board, a past Deputy-Reeve of (then) Burleigh, Anstruther, Chandos Township and member of Peterborough County Council. Mom was a founding member of the Peterborough City/County Disaster Fund. She was an advocate and rescuer of Quarry Bay Public Beach on Stoney Lake, “so all the local children always have a place to swim in the lake.” Mom was a natural artist, a beautiful quilter, a happy gardener, a family and local author. Never shy to say exactly what she thought, while she thought it, making her a colourful and never boring personality but always ready for fun. A memorial service will be held at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL on Saturday July 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Reception to follow in the Heritage Room of the funeral home. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Peterborough City/County Disaster Fund. Friends may send condolences, arrange flowers or make donations at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355. She was our sunshine.
