Obituary of Henrietta Burton

Henrietta Burton (Hancock née MacLeod) - November 22, 1913 Died peacefully at Specialty Case Manor, Bobcaygeon on April 10, 2012 Henrietta was born in Stornoway, Scotland in 1913 and emigrated to Canada in 1921 at eight years of age. Her family settled in Fort William, Ontario where "Etta" would grow up and meet many life-long friends. She began a teaching career in a one-roomed school house in Conmee and would eventually marry the "love of her life" Brian Hancock. They moved to Toronto after WW2 and together raised three children, Sydney, Leslie (Lee) and Wendy.  After Brian's passing, Etta married John Burton of Thunder Bay and moved back there resuming old friendships with many of the "Highland Ladies" of that town. When John passed away Etta moved to Bobcaygeon to be closer to family in that area and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and river-side views in her latter years. Throughout her life Etta was surrounded by people who cared deeply for her and had that joy returned by her friendship, humour and love of life. So many have been touched by her and she will be greatly missed. Etta is survived by her three children Sydney, his wife Anne- Lee Harding and her husband Keith - and Wendy Hedley and her husband Jim. Etta has been blessed with six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Specialty Case Manor for their care, sensitivity and warmth throughout Etta's time with them. A special thank you to Gary Cave and Gary Ridsdale for their love and support. Henrietta has been interred in Riverside Cemetery, Toronto. The family invites people to make donations to the charity of their choice.
