Ruth Hyslop

Obituary of Ruth Margaret Hyslop

Ruth “Ruthie” Margaret Hyslop 1948-2023

Surrounded by the love of her family, Ruth Hyslop, in her 74th year, passed away on July 6th, 2023. Cherished wife of 53 years to Jon, Ruthie was a loving mother to Alison McConnell (Allan), Brad Hyslop (Kim) and predeceased by her oldest daughter Laurie Khawaja. Ruth was a loving “Mammy” to Alexandra, Lauren, Abby, Max, Cameron and Piper. Predeceased by her parents George and Dorothy Leake, she is survived by her siblings Jack (Nancy) Leake and Joan (Dennis) Jubenville.

Trained at Grace Hospital in Windsor as a nurse, Ruth spent 22 years working at London Psychiatric Hospital. Ruth’s personality gave her the ability, in the unique environments of London Psych, to reach her patients on a mutually respected level. To this day, Ruth always enjoyed getting together with her graduating class to reminisce and catch up.

In London, Ruth enjoyed hanging with the ladies while doing water aerobics at The Athletic club, or going to countless arenas to watch her grandchildren participate in Ringette or hockey. Never one to say no to a social, Ruth loved being with family and friends. Ruth’s passion for family was never more demonstrated than in the yearly Christmas parties and countless Birthday’s.

Known as her “Shangri-La”, the cottage on Lower Buckhorn served as Ruth’s second home for many years. It was here she watched as her children, grandchildren and extended family created so many fond memories. Whether it was the water aerobics, swimming, watching water skiing, happy hour on the dock, Ruth was always in her element at the cottage.

It’s only fitting her final days were spent at the cottage and a special thanks goes to all the staff at Peterborough Regional Hospital for all their support and care given.

Cremation has taken place and Celebration of life will be held on August, 26th from 1-4pm at Boler Mountain at 689 Griffith Street, London Ontario.
