Marten Nichols

Obituary of Marten Nichols

NICHOLS, Marten

On December 5, 2023, the world now shines a little less bright as one of its luminous lights has left.  Marten Nichols, of Bobcaygeon, Ontario passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep. Marten was loved by so many for the kind, generous and truly unique special person he was. His door was always open, had a drink ready and made time for anyone who stopped by. Marten was an amazing host and made everyone feel welcomed and important.

In his younger years Marten worked as a Manager for Bobcaygeon Hydro and in his spare time could be found behind Homeplate as a Catcher. He was a great athlete that played many sports - Baseball, Hockey, and Football. He enjoyed hunting and spending time at the camp participating in the big story telling. Marten was a Master Brewer and loved to share his amazing creations with everyone. On Thursdays every week, he enjoyed hosting a poker game with a special group of friends that will miss him dearly. Cherished father to Suzie (Jason) Telford and Annette Nichols. Marten was a beloved Grandfather to Jayda Telford, Nicholas Telford, Paige Nichols and Olivia Nichols. Marten is preceded by his brother Bob Nichols and survived by his sister-in-law Louise Nichols.

He will be missed by his special friends that were like family to him Sherry and Chris Ross who spent many hours visiting, chatting, and laughing with Marten. Marten was happiest when all his family and friends were around sharing a beverage, having interesting conversations and watching sports. Marten didn’t go too far without having his four-legged sidekick Cherry by his side.

Marten was a special man that was loved by all that knew him. He will be missed but not gone forever, he has simply moved on to a different Universe. Losing Marten suddenly brings immense sadness to all who knew him. Arrangements have been entrusted to THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOME – MONK CHAPEL. As per the family’s request, there will be no service at this time and a Celebration of Life will take place in the Summer 2024.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes or Scouts Canada as expressions of sympathy and may be made by contacting the funeral home at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355.
