In Memoriam: Helmut Walter Kurt Rubert

 

March 3, 1931 - January 7, 2024

 

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helmut Rubert, who left this world in his 93rd year at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Helmut is survived by his dear children Grace (Lionel) and Bruce (Anne) Rubert, and his dear friend Marguerite. He will be remembered as a beloved grandad to Britney (Roger), Grant (Kelly), and Michael. He cherished his time as a great-grandad to Henry, Heidi, Carmen, and Eddison.

 

With a dedication to hard work, Helmut left his native Germany in 1960 as a skilled cabinet maker. Not a man to be kept indoors, he wisely amended the immigration form to read carpenter, then selected his new adventure by placing his finger on a map. Galt, Ontario. After years of establishing Savarin Construction in Cambridge and the GTA, he planted roots in Bobcaygeon in 1981. He later co-founded Savarin Lumber with his son in 1995.

 

Helmut had an entrepreneurial spirit and an engineering mindset which allowed his business to grow and his creativity to shine. He built multi-terrain amphibious vehicles long before they became popular. He spent sixty good years either at the sawmill or in the woods. Helmut never missed an opportunity to drive up HWY 11 to go hunting, right up until his 92nd year.

 

Helmut’s zest for life and adventure defined him. Well into his late 80’s, he continued to travel, embarking on numerous adventures that added vibrant chapters and new friends to his life story. A man of strong spirit, Helmut approached each day with enthusiasm, leaving a mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the HENDREN FUNERAL HOME – MONK CHAPEL. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 239 in Bobcaygeon on Saturday, February 24th, 2024 from 2:00 PM till 5:00 PM.
