Obituary of John Gregor Smith

SMITH: John Gregor  

February 20, 1938-February 28, 2024

John was born into a loving family to his parents Olwen and Neil Smith. He had many wonderful childhood memories alongside his sisters Libby (Bob) and Kath (John).  His fondest times were those spent on his Uncle Aubie’s farm in Grasshill, Ontario. This is where his love of farming and horses began. 

You were a lucky person if you knew John. His goals in life were to love the Lord, provide for his family, and shake as many hands with as many people as possible. He was never interested in status or wealth, and was happiest with his family on his farm.

Beloved husband of 63 years to Joan, loving father to Greg (Thora), Evan (Kelly), Stephen (predeceased), Laura, Peter (Wendy), Carol (Aronis), Sarah (Kurt), and Dave (Cheryl). He is survived by 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was a cherished Uncle to his nieces and nephew.

A special thank you to Dr. Gregory Zaniewski, Rosa (Nightingale Nursing), Dr. Mallory and the staff of the Palliative Care unit at PRHC for the wonderful care of John in his final days.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday April 6, 2024 at 11:00 am at St Joseph’s R.C. Church, Douro. Interment to follow at St Joseph’s R.C. Cemetery.
