Obituary of Douglas Sadler

SADLER, Douglas ""Doug"" Campbell Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at St. Joseph's at Fleming, Peterborough on Monday August 18, 2008, two weeks after his 92nd birthday. A well known author and teacher in the Peterborough area, he wrote an outdoors column for the Peterborough Examiner for forty years. Doug was a lifetime member of the Peterborough Field Naturalists and graduated from Trent University in 1978, receiving and honourary doctorate from Trent in 1988. In 1998 he was awarded a place on Peterborough's Pathway of Fame and received the Peter Robinson Award from the City in 2000. Just last year he was honoured by former Lieutanant Governor Bartleman with the Ontario Heritage Award for Lifetime Achievement. Loving husband of Joan Reading with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage on August 8th. Dear father of Heather (Roy Haig) Watson of Lakefield. Cherished grandfather of Natasha and Mariah. Sadly missed by sister-in-law Jacqueline Sadler of Burgh Le Marsh, Lincs, England. Beloved by many nieces, nephews and family in England and California. Predeceased by his parents Kate and Bertram and brother Ken. Friends and relatives may call at the HENDREN FUNERAL HOME, Lakefield on Thursday August 21, 2008 from 7-9 PM. A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held in the HENDREN CHAPEL on Friday August 22, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Reception to follow in the Heritage Room of the funeral home. Cremation. Memorial donations may be made to Peterborough Field Naturalists or Ontario Nature as expressions of sympathy.
