Obituary of Matthew Matt Courneya

COURNEYA: Matt May 8, 1990 ""?? August 31, 2011 ""Never Give Up"" Matt was tragically taken from his dear family and friends on Wednesday August 31, 2011 in Peterborough at the age of 21 years. Matt attended school in Lakefield before graduating from Thomas A. Stewart High School. He was an active member of the Peterborough Y.M.C.A. and will be remembered as a devoted son, grandson, brother and friend. Loved and sadly missed by his mother Gail and her partner Bob Franks. Loving brother of Mark and Caitlin (friend Adam Gillespie). Remembered by Tony Courneya. Also sadly missed by his grandparents Bob & Frances Merrick of Stirling, his aunt Carolyn (John) Rowe of Winchester, uncle Glen (Jennifer) Merrick of Stirling and cousins Kris, Kim (Greg), Travis (Christina), Nathan, Josh and Tyler (Aaren). Matt will never be forgotten by his close friends Sean Fenton, Ben Fisher, Kyle Hanna, Jesse McCourt and James Fenton. Also remembered by his extended family Lois Franks, Larry & Marion Franks, Ann & Gary Nelson, Scott Franks (Becky) and Courtney Franks (Bill), Kevin & Debi Courneya, Tara & Ashley, and many other family and friends. Friends and relatives may call at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL on Wednesday September 7, 2011 from 6-9 PM. A funeral service will be held at Lakefield United Church on Thursday September 8, 2011 at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the Church. As expressions of sympathy, condolences or donations to the Peterborough Y.M.C.A. may be made at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by contacting the funeral home at 705-652-3355. Cremation to follow. Final resting for Matt will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Stirling at a later date. A memorial tree in memory of Matt will be placed at Lakefield Cemetery for loved ones to visit.
