Obituary of Mary Andrews

Mary Donna Andrews, a resident of the Lakefield area for 75 years, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at her residence at Extendicare Lakefield on July 27, 2013. She was 99 years old. Mary was born on her family's farm in Roseneath in 1914, the oldest of Harry and Ellen Mouncey`s seven children. Mary attended school in Roseneath and Warkworth, and worked as a clerk in several area stores and as a telephone operator at a time when all calls were routed through a central switchboard. In 1938 she married Howard Garfield Andrews of Norwood. They moved to the Lakefield area where Howard went to work as a cheesemaker at the Pinegrove Cheese Factory. Together Mary and Howard bought Pinegrove and operated it until 1967. She sold cheese at the factory store and over the years fed and housed many factory workers, some of whom became like family. Following the sale of the factory they moved to the village of Lakefield. Mary is survived and will be greatly missed by her sister Jessie Fitzgibbon, brother Trevor Mouncey (Barbara), daughter Brenda Neill and son Bryce Andrews (Molly Arnold); granddaughters Lori Neill (Scott Estabrooks), Susan Kidd, and Kacey Nelson; great-grandchildren Kyle and Nick Kidd, Becky and Luke Nelson and Thomas and Erika Estabrooks; and her newly arrived great-great-grandson Myles Kidd. She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Ellen Mouncey, her husband Howard Andrews, her sister Audrey Parker and her brothers Harold, Clark and Elmer Mouncey. In addition to being remembered for the wonderful cheese she and Howard made, Mary will be remembered as a faithful member of Lakefield United Church and Life Member of the United Church Women, an avid euchre player and an otherwise most gentle and kind soul.
