Obituary of Mary Logel (Heffernan)
Mary Johanna (Heffernan) Logel - March 9, 1957 - September 16, 2013
LOGEL (Heffernan), Mary Johanna of Grafton, Ontario, died peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, September 16th, 2013 in her fifty-seventh year.
Beloved wife of Peter Logel of eighteen years. Adored mother of Edward Logel. Precious daughter of Kevin and Barbara Heffernan of Lakefield. Treasured sister of Betty Ann and her husband Gerard Logel (David, Maggie, Johanna) of Peterborough, Kevin and his wife Trudy (Cummings) (Tommy, Anna, Andrew) of Lakefield, Michelle of Bowmanville, Patricia (Danny, Keiven, T.J.) of Lakefield and Jeannie of Lakefield. Lovingly remembered by many Logel nieces and nephews. Mary Jo loved to spend time with her husband, Peter and her son, Edward. A dedicated teacher of thirty three years, Mary Jo lit up the life of her students with her humour, compassion and gentleness. In return, the students lit up her life with their energy and inquisitiveness. Through her abundant musical talent and her fiction and non-fiction writing, Mary Jo delighted our senses, stretched our imaginations, tenderly led us to places we once feared and softly taught us to find happiness and contentment with our own journey in life and appreciation for the journey of all those around us. A beautiful mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend and colleague, Mary Jo taught us all to find courage in moments of doubt, to carry on when we are not strong, to find laughter and hope in the face of adversity and to live our lives to the fullest. Mary Jo has blessed our lives forever with her writing and her songs, her wisdom and her wit, her beauty and her love. Of her sixteen year old son, Edward, Mary Jo said, "He is the best thing I ever did with my life." Visitation will be held at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013 (Parish Prayers at 6:45 p.m.). A second visitation will be held at MACCOUBREY FUNERAL HOME, 30 King Street East, Cobourg from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013 (Parish Prayers at 1:45 p.m.). A celebration of Mary Jo's life will take place at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Grafton on Saturday, September 21 at 10 a.m. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Five Counties Children's Centre or Northumberland Fare Share Food Banks would be appreciated by the family. Mary Jo received tremendous care and support from and made fast friends with the remarkable nursing staff in the P.R.H.C. Palliative Care Unit. Family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for exceptional care provided by the V.O.N., Dr. Jean Weir and Dr. Susan Gleeson with special thanks also to Dr. Chris Bailey and the Canadian Red Cross.
