Obituary of George Willis

Passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at Pinecrest Nursing Home, Bobcaygeon, on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, George Willis of Bobcaygeon, at the age of 87.  Husband of Gwendolyn Willis and the late Roberta Willis (1972). Father of Jackie Joyce, David Willis (Mary Fruci) and John (Bari) Willis. Stepfather of Cathy Avery (Roy Waluska), Blaine (Lois) Oakes, Richard (Nancy) Oakes and Janet Oakes-Wilcox (Richard Wilcox). Father-in-law of the late James “Ace” Joyce. Loved by his wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After losing his first wife, he raised his three children and then met his second sweetheart, Gwen. Together, they moved to the Bobcaygeon area, renovated homes and opened a business. Upon retirement and after fighting cancer, George became an ardent fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Bobcaygeon Senior Citizens’ Centre. George participated for many years in the Lawnbowling Club, volunteered with Community Care and Hospice Kawartha Lakes and wrote delightful Seniors’ Talk articles for The Promoter.  George will always be remembered as a thoughtful, caring person who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was honoured for his volunteer work with Hospice Kawartha Lakes in 2009. Family and friends will be received at Monk Funeral Home, 6 Helen Street, Bobcaygeon (705-738-3222 or 866-393-0063) on Sunday, November 10th, 2013 from 12 noon until service time at 1 pm.  Following the service, everyone is invited to  a reception at the Bobcaygeon Seniors' Centre, 100 Head Street, from 2-4 pm. If desired, memorial donations to Bobcaygeon Community Care or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
