Obituary of Donald Lewis Rogers

ROGERS, Donald Lewis

The world of sports lost its biggest fan June 27, 2019.

Donald Rogers, born October 7, 1949, aka Sugar lips, Dad, Papa, Papa Smurf, Flipper, Rog, Leroy, passed away peacefully in his 70th year, with his family by his side, at his residence in Bobcaygeon, Ont. The fix was in with his boxing match with cancer, though he fought long and hard. You could always see him around town in his favourite suit, a pocket t-shirt, jeans, moccasins and of course his beloved Miami Dolphins jacket and hat. It's a somber day for Molson Export, it will never be the same. His wife, Gail Rogers, of almost 44 years has lost her lover and best friend and won't have anyone to tease and banter with now, so she may become a crazy cat lady or bother their children, Chris Rogers and Kim Bucknell so much, they will change their phone numbers. His grandchildren, Sophia and Liam Bucknell, the apples of his eye, will miss their Papa's hugs and kisses and making him run after them in their electric car when they speed away from him playfully. His father, Tom Rogers, will be there to greet him in heaven, where they will be raising a glass or two together, however, his mother Jackie Rogers, who is 29 years of age by her count, and his brothers, Les, Tom, Wayne, Bob, Keith and Lou, will greatly miss him here on earth. His out-laws oops in-laws, Terry & Brenda Simpson, Stan & Maryellen Simpson, Robin & Raymond Roy, Tom Simpson & Ken Irvine and Guy & Lea-Anne Simpson and his many nieces & nephews, will miss his larger than life presence. As the big guy requested, cremation has taken place and there will be no service, no respectable establishment would take on the task, however a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Don's name to a charity of your choice. Friends may send condolences or make donations by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, MONK CHAPEL, 6 Helen Street at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-738-3222.
