Obituary of Alberta Emma Schneider

SCHNEIDER, Alberta “Pody”

Surrounded by her loving family our cherished Pody passed away on November, 12, 2019 at the remarkable age of 102 at Case Manor Nursing Home in Bobcaygeon.

Pody was born Alberta Emma Hahn, on September 7th, 1917 in Wallenstein, Ontario. She was the youngest child of Albert and Rebecca (Deckert) Hahn. She spent her first years in Linwood, Ontario, before moving to London, Ontario in 1929.  She received an education at Beale Technical School and was employed during the war years as secretary at an Air Observer School (part of the RCAF) in London.  On January 12th, 1946, she married Percy Edward Schneider. They later moved to Milverton, raised a family and started a farm machinery business in Brunner which they operated for many years. In 1966 they acquired a summer cottage on Sturgeon Lake outside Bobcaygeon, and in 1972 moved there year-round. In 1988 Pody and Percy moved back to southwestern Ontario to Uniondale near St. Marys. After Percy’s death in 2000, she moved back to Bobcaygeon to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.  She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch 239 and recently received her 60 year pin.

Pody took great pride in working hard all her life, and loved travelling, eating out, dancing, shopping, playing cards, solving crosswords, having a draft at the Legion, and laughing with friends and family. A gracious lady, she was kind and generous to everyone she knew. Pody was exceptionally proud of her grandchildren Erin (Jeremy Stuart), Andrea (Adrian Brown), and Dustin Crowe (Shannon Lee) and her great-grandchildren Gavin, Thomas, Felix, Fiona and Farren. She will be remembered always as a wonderful mother by her son Dan (Joey) and daughter Lynn (Jim). She will be missed by her sisters-in-law Pearl Schramn and Myra O’hara, by Shirley Raglan and other friends and family.

Pody requested no funeral service and wished only to be reunited with her husband Percy and with her three sisters, Eleanora, Vera, and Hilda. Friends may send condolences by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, MONK CHAPEL at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-738-3222.
