For any of you who go waaaaaaaaaaay back, there's a beautiful, beautiful write up by Kathy on the days and times of Sun Valley Hotel Suiss: And I'm this Bruce: "Sun Valley produced many University alumni. To name but a few, Bruce from Chatham, Ontario was an underage Assistant Barman" ... Sun Valley -- bartending -- was my summer job for a couple of years. At that age, I could not have hoped to have met someone who would make a bigger and more lasting impression on me than Kathy. So. Much. Fun. So happy. So good. And such a good, good person. I have never forgotten Kathy. She made those summers -- and me -- that much better, all by herself. I will never forget that, and will never forget her. I hope she's at peace. I hope she's giggling. Spaghetti Sandwich One summer day at Kathy's cottage boat launch we were catching some rays. Around lunch time we went to her kitchen fridge to hunt for lunch. We heated up some leftover spaghetti from the night before and we made spaghetti and tomato sandwich on thick sliced French loaf. Back to the lakefront we discovered we needed to cut the very large diameter sandwich in half. We hadn't brought a knife with us to the boat house and there was no way either of us was going to loose sun time going all the way back to her cottage to get a knife. The cottage was at least 100 feet away. We rummaged around a tool box in the boathouse and came up with Kathy father's saw. It worked fine.

One summer day on or around 1973 Kathy and I were at a party at Dave Clark's cottage down near Montfort. We both decided that we weren't comfortable with this party crowd so we exited the cottage out of Dave and Pam's bathroom window. Oh, yah, we left the bathroom door locked on the inside. Not intentionally but we remembered that fact much too late to be able to fix our error. Keep in mind that this was years before anyone came up with cell phones or texting. Interesting that Dave Clark would become a high ranking Bell executive in the Bell Telecommunication business. Anyway, Kathy and I tumbled out of Dave and Pam's very small bathroom window. Somehow we made our way back to my cottage in Newaygo where we decided that we weren't tired at all so we made a chess board using different coloured linoleum floor tiles. The white chess pieces were cuts out with white paper. The black chess pieces were newspaper. We played chess on the floor until the sun came up. I have one or two out of focus photos of Kathy sitting on the floor next to the floor chess board on one of my hard drive back-ups at home. Thinking back as I am now of that time, I chuckle at the memory that we actually did made a large but flat chess board and played until the sun came up...
