Dear Heather and Family, It was with a mixture of sorrow and gladness that I read of Jeff's death - I know that he was so frustrated at the way his life had become. I knew, admired and loved Jeff from the day he arrived in Lakefield - He came to speak to the then, Lakefield Women's Institute, just an hour or so after arriving in Lakefield, and so shyly, and with such loving pride, he told us of your pregnancy - We quickly realised what a treasure he was. When my beloved Jack died, Jeff became my advisor and sounding board - He will be missed by so many of us - a true gentleman - I am sorry that he had to die so very young, but then it seems to be that the best , go first - With much love to you Heather, the girls and Jeff's family. We know that Jeff will be sadly missed, but I am looking forward to seeing him in the new system. Being able to make him laugh (as Mrs. A-Wiggins ha, ha) and getting to know him better without sickness. I know right now he would not like for you guys to be unduly sad because of the hope that we have, but I know at times like this it is hard. He knew it was getting hard for all of you guys & was really trying to prepare you so that things wouldn't be as difficult to bear. Our love is with you guys & please Heather call if you need anything. Love Angela Jim, Kirk & of course Kate & Andrew

To Heather & his daughters - 'Big Jeff' as he is know by the Lein family of Port Elgin & Toronto - Jeff will be sadly missed by all of us - Such a kind & gentle giant - His police exploits with my brother Douglas in the Saugeen area are legendary & he always seemed to know when Douglas was cooking a turkey. Our Mother Mrs. Agnes Lein, was on a church bus trip in the Lakefield area when Jeff was Chief - she went into the police station just to say Hi to Jeff & when she got back on the bus, all the ladies wondered why she had to go into the police station - Mom just said she went in to say Hi to one of her son's best friends. We know Jeff's passing is a blessing - but that does not make the pain of it any less. God's Blessings to all his family connection - Love, Mrs.Agnes & Joan Elizabeth Lein - (Douglas Lein's Mother & Sister in Toronto)

Mrs. Pritchard and girls, although I never met Jeff in person, we did meet via the internet. We had a few things in common, Jeff was a Police Officer, I was a Correctional Officer. We were both dads, which I know is the best job in the world. And we also both have ALS, which is how we met. I was diagnosed on October 29, 1998, 6 years ago Friday. Jeff and I shared our experiences about our struggles living with ALS. I will continue to fight on, and I will always cherish our conversations that we had. You're in my thoughts and prayers. steve pasquino
