Dear Alice - I was so sorry to hear of Don's death, he was a true gentleman - he always had time for everyone, I particularly enjoyed the trips made to the council meetings, we were treated with kindness, concern, and patience . You are in my thoughts to-night, having walked in your shoes. My heart goes out to you and your family. Funnily enough it will be 11 years on the 9th since Jack died, I can imagine their meeting and all the news that they have to catch up with - much love Beryl

Dear Alice I was saddened first to hear that Don was in hospital and then that he was gone.My thoughts of him always include you because you were such a perfect team, cheerful, capable, always on the go and a pair of real problem solvers. Both of you seemed to always be concerned about others, although I knew from little things that Don said that he cared deeply for you and your family. I consider myself privileged to have had him as a friend and I will continue to stay in touch. Sincerely, Tom Sanderson

We would like to send our deepest sympathy to you Alice and your Family at this very trying time. Although our paths have not passed in some years, we don't forget the folk from down home. Jack always claimed Don was a good fellow to work for. We always remember our Rivington neighbours just across the gulley. Alice, please say hello to the Meyer Family for us. Our thoughts are with you. Pat( Smith )& Jack Bates

Dear Alice; I was greatly saddened to read the norice in the Examiner today. How devastated you must feel! Although since we moved I have not seen much of you, both of you are frequently in my thoughts. Serving with Don on Smith Townshiop Council was one of the memorable experiences of my life. He was always so level-headed when we came to periods of stress; he could come up with such good ideas for solving problems -an inspiration to all who worked with him. I worked with him for quite a long period and remember him with always a cheerful exptression, always thinking of someone else's troubles and never letting on if he had any of his own.. A dear friend to me as well as a colleague. My heart goes out to you. God bless. Love from Helen Willcox
