Obituary of Glenn Wood

WOOD: Glenn Lorne (1921-2010) Glenn Wood of Stoney Lake, Ontario, passed away on Friday January 8, 2010 at the P.R.H.C. Born in Arcola, Saskatchewan, he was the son of the late Hazael and Myrtle (Littlejohn) Wood. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wendy (Cleugh), three sons, Scott (Heather) of Moncton NB, Dean of Ft. McMurray, Alberta, and Kent (Donna) of Montreal, PQ, sister Fern Irwin of Toronto, brother-in-law Peter Cleugh of Winnipeg and 6 grandchildren Taryn, Lauren, Kenda, Nelson, Christopher and Sean. A graduate of Sir George Williams College and New York University, Glenn worked as a Physical Education Teacher and School Principal for the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal for 33 years, before retiring in 1980. He then moved from Lachine PQ, and spent his retirement years at the cottage (Stoney Lake) in the summer and in Sarasota, Florida in the winter. Glenn was a gifted athlete, playing university basketball (SGWC) and baseball (NYU). He was also a nationally certified Track and Field official, and worked at the British Empire Games in Vancouver, BC in 1954. As a teacher, he spent countless hours after school coaching numerous athletes in sports such as football, basketball and hockey. Upon retiring, Glenn developed a passion for both golf and tennis, and especially enjoyed the many friendships he made participating in these activities. His passion for young people, and his love of friends and family, especially his grandchildren, was unparalleled. Glenn will be sadly missed by all who knew him! There will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Glenn, memorial donations may be made to the P.R.H.C. Foundation or the charity of one's choice as expressions of sympathy.
