Please accept our condolences for your loss. We have lost a talented and generous friend. Take solace in knowing your grief is shared by many friends, both known and unknown to you. When the pines sigh just so, and the waves lap the shore, we all will hear the gentle splash of his paddle.

Everyone must believe in something. I believe I'll go canoeing Henry David Thoreau Gerry, thanks for the memories and for giving all of us something to believe in, something to anchor us, as we go through life's journey.

I had the pleasure of working with Gerry at General Electric. We kept in touch a few times after we both retired. Gerry would stop in or blow his horn while going by our house on one of his many canoe and camping trips. With deepest sympathy from my family to yours. Bob Stranaghan and Family

Dear Shirley, Though our paths crossed only a few times we wanted you to know what a lasting impression Gerry left with all of us. The two days he spent together with Nicholas, Britt, Nicole and I, putting up the deck at the front of the house in Salem were special days. We learned a lot from him, bonded with him and had a thoroughly fun and productive time. Then there were the various family functions we attended with you and Gerry when he shared his quiet ways and wry sense of humour. I had always hoped that someday Britt and I could go on a canoeing adventure with Gerry but as usual other things always got in the way. The first time we met Gerry was when Britt and Nicole were headed for Utah. He was very shy but we gathered instantly how close Nicole was to her father and what a delightful and likeable person he was. We were very sorry to hear about the challenges you both faced in the last few days. It must have been so hard. Jack and Cole still talk about going in the canoe with Grandpa - something they will never forget. We all have fond memories of Gerry and we want you to know our thoughts are with you. Michael and Jacquie Lindop

Gerry has left us fond memories with the Venture and Rover scouts, those many miles of paddling, many nights of summer and winter camping, many weekends and evenings of training sessions and the making of paddles will be with us a lifetime. Gerry's patience and dedication to teaching young and old the beauty of the outdoors was a gift. Your trip through life was successful, God bless.

Gerry was a man whom I would identify a true and loyal friend. Gerry you were so talented and you always shared your expertise to those like me, who relied on your experiences and expertise around areas you loved so dearly...Archery, canoe paddle making etc. Your talents were many and I was the fortunate one to have you as a friend. I am going to miss my good friend. Claude Bryan Dufresne

Shirley - Jamie and I will always remember when you questioned Jamie about the guy who taught paddle making knowing Jamie had taken that course --- trying to get the 'lo down after meeting Gerry. It was the next week that he joined our little paddle group and little did us amateurs know that he was a renouned paddler.... even written a book on paddling!! We all were in awe. I remember being at a firework display with the paddle group in Buckhorn one July 1st and noticing how close you and Gerry sat and seeing the happiness in both your eyes. We were so happy that you found each other and know that you were soulmates. Shirley -there is nothing we can say to help you through this horrific period. Just know that we are there for you should you need a friend and you are in our thoughts and prayers always. We don't need to tell you how great Gerry was - you know that yourself. You brought out the best in each other and the vitality of your relationship was simply joyous to behold. Our sincerest condolences.. Love Barb & Jamie.
