It is with shock and great sadness at the sudden loss of Neill. He and I go way back to the early '80's when I moved to The Beach. Raising pints at the Balmy Arms, then later at Wheelers, which became Captain Jacks. Checking out his latest hot sauce or beef jerky at his Queen Street apartment was always an adventure. Parties there and at my place were always a hoot with Neill in attendance. Then, he met Kathy and a whole new very happy chapter in Neill's life was written. Like two peas in a pod, they bounced around happily for the next 23 years, enjoying their cottage, Florida, their family and many friends. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of Neill's family and friends, but especially Kathy, who mourns her ever loving Soulmate. Hugs my friend, Aileen

Dear Kathy and all mourning Neill - I am so sorry to learn of the passing of Neill - and only just learned. I have many memories of Neill scaring the fish and entertaining so many. I know you will have so many stellar memories and I hope they will sustain you through this very sad time. My sincere condolences and also a big, big hug.
Truly, Shelley Ambrose

Kathy…Linda and I are absolutely crushed by the news of Neill’s passing. Linda and I cannot believe it has been 20 years since you and Neill helped us celebrate our wedding. We wish we would have done a better job of staying in touch, but hindsight is 2020. At least we have some very fond memories to reflect back on. Neill was one of a kind, a story teller so gifted that he could be reciting pages from the telephone book and still have you hanging on every word. Neill was very well liked by so many...I am so fortunate to say that I knew Neill and that he was my friend. The world will be just a little sadder place without that big smile of his. Linda and I extend our heartfelt condolences to you and to Neill’s family.

So, so sorry that Neill has passed. My "ferocious" competitor in our annual "charity cook-offs " at Captain Jack.
We talked food a lot. Truly his passion, but known to cheat on occasion at the cook offs; using Cook Books for
recipes ! Well, maybe only once, but he won that year. One could set your watch @ 4:00 PM as Neill would
appear at the Pub for pint time. Always in the same seat, he was always fun and cordial to everyone. You will
be missed "old friend" !

Neil and I shared a love of cooking, golf and fishing. He was a smart cookie and a real mensch. I treasure our many conversations and the insight he shared in each interaction. Although I was only able to play host to him and his lovely wife Cathy on one or two occasions, I got to know about many aspects of his life at our local, Captain Jack. Neil was truly an original and I will miss him very much.

I was deeply saddened to learn that Neill had passed away. I am sending my condolences, prayers and warm thoughts to Kathy and all of the family. Although I had not spoken with Neill over the past few years I can still here his deep voice and wonderful laugh when I look at the pictures that have been posted. I first met Neill when I was hired as a 2nd AD on Street Legal, together we learned Movie Magic scheduling which was a game changing tool from the old multi coloured strips, pencils and bulky boards. When I returned for the next season I announced I was pregnant. Being a new mom to be, and doing a lot of reading I had read that computer monitors were potentially dangerous to work in front of in the early stages of pregnancy. I walked into Neill’s office and requested that a special monitor screen be purchased to protect me and the baby from some form of harmful radiation that is transmitted from the old monitors. He looked at me, didn’t batt an eye, said “You want a what? Is there such a thing?” I told him there was, showed him the item and he ordered it that very day. Many years later, after Neill had retired from the CBC, Neill and Kathy invited us to our first of many dinner parties at their lovely condo. Over our first drink, Neill told the story of my screen request, which I had forgotten all about. His description of the event was much funnier than I remembered. Evidently I didn’t request I demanded the screen and he was not going to argue with a young hormonal, pregnant AD even if at the time he thought it was as if I was asking for a left handed stapler! Neill would tell the same story at every dinner party and I never grew tired of hearing it. He always told it with laughter and love. Traditionally people say “ Rest In Peace”. “Downtown” Neill Brown never rested, I believe he is still golfing, fishing, telling stories and playing with his beloved retrievers in a place called heaven.

Oh Cathy how we will all miss Neill with his devilish smile. I was the only girl allowed to go fishing with him as i would bait my own hook. What a wonderful man with the greatest sense of humor....loved him dearly.

Seamus, it is with deepest sorrows and a heavy heart that I reach out to you and your family during this time. I have an amazing memory of Neill (at his home in the 90's) when we sat and chatted for hours laughing; it was that day he inspired me and changed the course of my life forever. He instilled a light inside of me just like you do my friend. God bless you and your family

Kathy our memories of Neill and great times are many. Just seeing him in the Wildfire Clubhouse always with a big smile on his face was great! Sunday golf and the parties after were always full of shenanigans from croquet, bocci ball, to Neill's crappy fish and the jerk chicken on the deck. Was so fun when you and Neill played golf with David and I and Dean was bringing out bottles of wine on to the course for us. Going to keep these and many more memories of him with us always.
Our love goes out to you and your family. Xoxox

Kathy I will always remember Neill in the Friendship United Church kitchen preparing Christmas Dinners for many. The turkey always looked just like something Martha Stewart herself would serve. My condolences to you & your family. Take Care. In our thoughts & prayers.

Kathy I have so many beautiful pictures I want to share with you. You both where so generous taking Brian and myself with Shelley and David to New York City when Brian was sick, a trip of a lifetime. Getting together at the Barn and Clear and Stoney Lake with the crew. Your trips to Lockside and we'd all laugh because every single time Rocky would run straight to the kids room and grab a stuffy. I don't know if you ever knew it but in the early years Neil took me aside and asked if I would introduce you to some girls on the lake because you where lonely. So off we went to a girls luncheon at Wildfire {when it was still a tent} and the rest is history. He loved you so. And a big thank you from Craig and myself for sharing great meals at the cottage. What fun! Thinking of you Kathy. Lots and Lots of love Sue and Craig.

Oh, the times we had. Street Legal wrap parties, where Neill would insist on having a Rodney's Oyster Bar cart, crazy fishing weekends up at Quinte for walleye opening day, spectacular meals on the deck at Neill and Kathy's gorgeous Stoney Lake cottage. (i'm sure I had late night arguments with Neill over the spelling of Stoney vs Stony). His kickass work wrangling a film set. His fierce love for his kids. Kathy charging him "caddie fees" if he insisted on re-living his day on on the golf course, after indulging in his "smart pipe". His devotion to Rocky, who I'm sure Neill liked to believe was the biggest badass dog on the block, but hey, he was a Golden Retriever--get serious.
There are a ton of stories I couldn't possibly relate on a solemn occasion as this, but I'm sure Neill would just laugh and say "Why not?".
A true bon vivant, raconteur, connoisseur, larger-than-life, tough Irish bastard. I will cherish the memories he gave me and others, and I will miss him every day. My heart goes out to Kathy, Seamus and Tara, but I know Neill would simply crinkle up that face of his and say "Oh, jeez."
